I think if you take water from it a ton, it'll start to dry out. I noticed that one time when I took my Puddle Slimes out of their pond (protect them from a tarr outbreak I wanted to happen to get rid of a load of largos I couldn't keep contained) I noticed part of the ground from the bottom of the pond was showing. I had for a few days in game took water to fill my water tank before I leave the ranch in case Tarrs formed. I felt bad for my Puddle slimes, but as I watched, the water refilled itself. I don't know how, probably a feature to the pond. So I could happily put my Puddle Slimes back :D So I don't think it'll dry up as the Puddle Slimes use it. But I suggest taking the water that is in the wild, rather than from the pond on your ranch. Puddle Slimes are a wonderful way to have a stable amount of plorts to sell at the end of each day :D Also, this probably is silly sounding, but Puddle Slimes like hearing hen hens. So let a hen hen hang around the pond & the puddle slime will kinda double plort production. I hope I helped :D
I can't find any info about that on the wikis, but that would be kind of funny if true. They don't like being around other slimes, but the hen hens are totally cool...
As for the ponds, they shouldn't dry out with "normal" use unless you take a ton of water out of them. They are supposed to slowly refill over time.
