anybody have tips for strange diamonds?

i know that they are the rarest drill resource, and can be found anywhere, but does anyone have any quick tricks as to how to gather some? like, say, do i have to place drills in specific spots, regions, etc?

All I'm doing is: place 6 advanced around the lab, complete their cycles if possible and reinsert them if they will no longer work.

I had to do this four times until I finally got a diamond.

my advice is to not look for them, but be happy when you get them and just be patient.
