is my pc suited to play slime rancher, or do i need a new pc?

The lag occurs throughout gameplay, with no spikes, only running at around 1-3fps.
I have not tried closing unnecessary startup programs.
halp plz

Unfortunately you do not meet the system requirements for Slime Rancher. It is the reason you are experiencing issues.
can i ask what the system requirements are for slime rancher? need to know so i dont make the same mistake again - go for the cheapest laptop you find, it will probably run a decent game at a decent fps

I don't know what causes the lag, but I'm using V-sync and I think it adds to the lag. I noticed this on the Xbox One, where turning V-sync off results in smooth frame rates but causes screen tearing.

On my PC, with V-sync on, I get anywhere from 60 FPS to 40 FPS (maybe lower) depending on what areas I go to.

Specs:
M5A99E Evo R2.0
AMD FX-8320 @ 4.0GHz
GTX 1060 6 GB
16 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
WD Blue 1 TB HDD
Windows 7

Slime Rancher's system requirements are displayed on the Steam store page, just above reviews.

^this is what a liar looks like, ladies and gentlemen.

I have two 970s and an i5 (my bottleneck) and I get lag when there's a lot going on, especially with booms and crystal slimes jammed into corrals. Now I don't exceed 20 slimes per corral just to keep the frame rate playable. Even in the wild, the areas where booms and rads congregate can dip.

There is no way in hell you're running the game on highest settings, with 8x AA, and not getting frame dips, especialy with an old rig. Unless you're running it at 800x600 or something.

I second what Emerald and Foam said, you're having some other kind of issue, this isn't related to rendering.

My computer is also very good and I absolutely never lag on Slime Rancher, and I pour tons of chickens into the overgrowth without coops, so they breed like mad and flood the place.

There's a lot that could be going wrong here, but I'll throw this out just because a friend had this problem recently:

If you're using a laptop, your battery settings could be playing a part in this. Try plugging your laptop in to charge and see if there's a difference in game performance.

Absolutely fantastic reply, tried everything and plugging my charger in stopped ALL lag.
Thank you so VERY much :)

If you're on a laptop there are good odds it's trying to use your intergraded GPU instead of your GTX 1660ti. That would explain it running poorly. You may want to look into disabling dual graphics, or just disabling your intergraded GPU to see if that fixes this

i have an gen 11 core i7 and an nvidia geforce rtx 3050 laptop gpu and i get frames in the 40s (it feels capped because it switches from 40-39 fps) when lowest i get 60 but i have a 144hz monitor any preset higher than lowest i get 40 fps

I haven't noticed any lag myself, then again I just recently got a nice new gaming desktop.
