Are the malware effected removed and when.
I have a family shared PC with Wallpaper Engine. And i heard about malware. and i have questions?

1. Which Wallpapers are affected? specifically?
2. Did Steam removed them already?
3. If they are removed, when did they do it? Becaus Wallpaper Engine is installed very recently. So if the install is after the removal date there is less chance of infection?
4. Why no Email from Valve/Wallpaper Engine with a headsup? This is the minimum they could do.... SO no new ppl get infected.

The ones identified are removed but theres always a potential for more because they are from the workshop and Steam has specifically said it won't prevent malware from being uploaded there.

The ones that are risky are specifically and only the "Application Wallpapers". These are automatically hidden by filters unless you turn them off and even then, WE automatically warns you every time you download one. All other wallpapers are fine. So unless you sought out application wallpapers, you and your install of WE are completely safe.

To add on to this, here is an article discussing the issue. https://securelist.com/dozens-of-malicious-wallpapers-found-on-steam-workshop/120186/ But as mentioned above if you didn't seek out applications on WE you should be fine.
1) There is a type of wallpaper classified as "Application" which is essentially a program with it's own .exe file, by default this type of wallpaper cannot be accessed unless you specifically check the Application filter in the search function and if you were to come across them you will receive a warning window to warn you if you wish to proceed with the subscription to said addon.

2) The ones that were known yes.

3) I assume after the news were made public, so within these few days. The risk of infection lies within any "Application" type of wallpaper.

4) To be fair wallpaper engine already warns you before downloading these addons which contains .exe files, this situation is purely user error TBH, a lot of people decided to take the risk and clicked on "Proceed" to install unknown programs in their PCs, yes it's crazy for wallpaper engine to allow this in the first place but many people decided to go with it anyways.

You would be suprised how many kids (&adults) don't know the danger of .exe downloads...

Check out this post where I provide some context to see why this abuse was very limited in scope and why you are almost certainly not affected:

Thx. It's reassuring. But limited or not if you are affected it doesn't really matter.

In my experience. if a game is unsafe, or a company is hacked. The companies are always quite about it, or downplay the threath or scope. I am not saying you or your company does lie. But i am always skeptical what the spokesman say.

Anyway i bought this WE in 2022, and i refunded it to avoid this situation. However i need to investigate some "teens" who used this, and possibly downloaded 100+ wallpapers.
I really hope they didn't use the applications or even webbased ones...
Report those users that have uploaded the workshop items. It's the only way to clean the site up from malicious and nefarious users.

they just make another account with fake names, and post a new "item"

Who cares, report em. You'd rather have them plague the entire platform because: "they just make another account with fake names, and post a new "item"". Stop being reductive, bro. Jesus.

often times they shall just use bots to do the process of new accounts and reuploading
leading to us wasting time reporting them
idk if its dev side or steam side that reviews the content

im all for reporting bad items, but sadly i recall the botwaves that kept coming nonestop
banning from forums, groups, so on only to see pages upon pages of banned users
it is your time, seek justice or try to find another way
informing others? making a list of potential bad ones then sharing to the dev for removal and review plus to others

simple reports might not be enough sadly and would take awhile to look thru each

goodluck with whatever you decide

Essentially, give up and roll over. Gotcha.

I wouldn't be worrying about my end, since I have not used Wallpaper Engine since 2023.

nope i did not say that, i report stuff over time
but sadly stuff does not always happen many times they say no rules broken these days
there is commonly droves of reports with few staff to read them
who knows if automated checks the workshop reports?

its your time to spend it as you wish, just remember life is limited spend it wisely
report report report as you wish and may it actually have a change hopefully

hopefully the botwave days are far less in people being able to make mass accounts
v.s the older insane days

also we cant help/save everyone i use to try my best to report everything scamwise and such, but they kept coming and coming and coming
eventually it gets old, folks gonna fall for it there fault

the better tends to be to inform people on how to avoid them
helps as a whole v.s just getting single items removed

Is there a way to filter application wallpaper in my own lbrary?

And nothing youve done is stopping creators from switching any type of wallpaper to another with a simple patch, I checked a few days ago, I had no application subs, I checked JUST NOW, I had one updated today that while removed from the workshop, was still on my harddrive.

Yeah you can go to your subbed wallpapers in the steam client without even booting up the engine, and on one of the sorting options on the right you can select "applications", just unsub from anything in there.

As I corrected you in the other thread, the attack scenario you are describing does not work that way due to how the app and our anti spam system would handle such a case. Regarding "application wallpapers suddenly appearing", the easiest expansion is simply that you missed it before, possibly due to conflicting filter settings for example.

Feel free to share the link to the items in question (ideally privately via support@wallpaperengine.io) if you want me to double-check on this. However, this scenario is extremely unlikely.
