In order to change the square preview image, I have to upload the entire thing again as an update?
This is not ideal.

No you, don't, the preview image is currently not updated in the upload window, it's just a visual bug that we have noted down as a fix for January after our Christmas vacation. The updated image will be uploaded even if Wallpaper Engine has not updated the preview that you see in the publishing window.

The way you explained this is very confusing. I seem to be okay though. I went into the editor and changed the existing image and it starting uploading as an update and started to upload the entire video file all over again. When this happened, I decided to cancel the upload update and afterwards, went back on the file page in steam and it seemed to have changed just the image like I wanted.

I just realized that you meant something entirely different after seeing that you shared a huge wallpapers. Yes, technically you have to re-upload the complete wallpaper to update the preview image. That is not ideal but the vast majority of wallpapers is also just 10 Megabytes in size, not 3 GB, so usually it is not a huge problem. Cancelling the update does not cancel the preview image update though, so I guess that's a hacky way to get around that.

The preview image is also "part" of the content that is uploaded, Wallpaper Engine needs this to be able to display the preview image at all times, even without Steam being available.

I don't think there is even a way to only update the content of a submission selectively. It's definitely possible to only update the Steam preview image, but then the image that is part of the content would still be the old one.

Will we ever be able to add the effects to video files like we do uploaded images? Really been wanting to do that. I would love to add rain effects or even smoke to some of my video wallpaper uploads. I hope this is a future feature for Wallpaper Engine!

Maybe at some point, yes. That's unfortunately a really difficult feature to implement and separate from the video support that exists. It won't work well on Windows 7 or computers with faulty video support so it will really require Windows 10 and a fully working installation at that. (A significant amount of people have buggy video system files.)

Well for those of us who have 10, and have really cool ideas, this feature would be amazing. Maybe put an optional file/dlc for those of us who have proper systems to handle it. Been hoping for this feature since I bought wallpaper engine. Thanks for all the replies!
