I got Wallpaper Engine to open and change settings on Linux Steam Proton (going for mobile, obv. the Desktop Wallpapers won't work) but...

I can get the settings loaded up, I can even subscribe to wallpapers, and the Wallpaper Engine icon shows up in my Linux system tray and the right-click context menu works, but when I try to link mobile, it can't connect, even though it does show up in the mobile app. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the firewall as the infrastructure to fix the firewall that the "fix firewall" button does is probably not implemented in WINE / Proton.

Anyways, it's still pretty close and then we could use WE on mobile using Linux / Steam Deck. Maybe a 3rd party could add actual Desktop wallpaper support, but that'd probably take some doing (although it *is* just a movie that gets played for a lot of them... that might be possible who knows, maybe some Linux person will integrate unofficially).

For the record, I'm on MX Linux 23.3 based on Debian Bullseye, kernel 6.6.11 using Steam with GE-Proton 9-7 (Glorious Eggroll) and if it matters an RX 6700 XT (but the graphics card probably doesn't matter just to get the menus and library working and partial network connectivity for mobile app working).
