I use a fairly simple and small wallpaper I created a bit ago as my android phone background (Black Hole 5)
It works great and doesn't seem to eat up too much battery too quickly. The battery still lasts me all day (so I can charge again throughout the night).
However, if I use a wallpaper that has an xray effect or maybe even blend (really only remember it with the xray), it becomes very laggy (for me at least, it did) and can chew through more battery quicker.
All in all, should be fine to use it on your android. Minor increase in battery usage but not too bad depending on the size / which wallpaper you end up using.
I hope I could help you somewhat in any way. Take care!
