Major Copyright Infringements?
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Wallpaper Engine.

My question is about copyright.

Let's say somebody created an animated wallpaper from the artwork that they have found on DeviantArt/ArtStation/etc. The original artwork is protected by copyright and you are not allowed to publish it or any modifications of it (e.g. animated wallpaper) whether this is for commercial or non-commercial use. "Fair use" also does not apply here. Linking/mentioning the original piece in the description does not change anything.

We are not even talking about stealing someone's animated wallpaper, just creating an animated wallpaper from the image you found online is already a copyright infringement. <b>The correct way to do it would be to ask the original artist for permission.</b> But I have a feeling people rarely do that. I've seen artists on forums complaining their art is used without consent and steam support is slow to answer.

I'm not a law person, so can somebody please explain whether the statements above are correct? Do you guys ask for permission when creating an animated wallpaper? Should we?

Note that Steam uses bbcode-style markup.

BBCode is a markup language commonly used on web forums.

If you believe a Wallpaper Engine wallpaper is an illegal derivative of your own work, email info[at]wallpaperengine.io to send a DMCA takedown request. Instructions on sending takedown requests are available online.
