H265 wallpaper just shows gray on windows 10
One of the subscriber of my wallpaper is having issues with playing it. He says he is using windows 10 and also using a 3060 TI and a 12400f with no IGPU. The video only shows up gray for him. He tested other H265 videos in VLC (i think it was VLC) and he says it works. But with my wallpaper its just gray. I made a x264 wallpaper and it worked fine for him. He is using WIndows 10 Pro 21H2 build 19044

Any ideas?

its a codec or a driver issue, it has nothing to do with windows, gpu, or cpu

Yeah i know its not the issue spec wise since eveyrthing of it is far fine as such is windows 10 since previous only had problems with hevc (there has however been some problems with 10 i read). He has already installed k-lite codec pack and can as such also run h265 in media players he says. So i really don't know.

Wallpaper Engine uses the Windows Media Founddation as playback, so it basically relies on Windows to be able to play back videos. Media players like VLC ship their own decoders and codec packs, so it is not surprising that your friend can play the video in VLC. If your friend tests the same video in Windows Media Player, it will likely also not work there.

Your friend can use the steps on following page from top to bottom, one of these issues will likely fix the problem. Codec packs like K-Lite often do not help either and sometimes just make things less stable, so we recommend against them:

Generally this is why we recommend H.264 because it is less hardware intensive and has much wider support while quality and file size are not that substantially better on H.265.

He commented this on my wallpaper earlier "In any player everything is fine in VLC and in Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player and PotPlayer"
