Issue with dual monitor and latest patch
So, I updated Wallpaper Engine yesterday and I have a dual monitor setup (main screen is horizontal and the secondary screen is in vertical position)

Since I updated I'm having an issue where the main screen's wallpaper is low-res, and the secondary screen's wallpaper doesn't fill the entire screen, just the center of it.

I've found a solution that is a bit annoying but kinda works, which is: I select a wallpaper > I click the "apply effects to all the other wallpapers > hit OK, and then it seems to go back to normal, but whenever I minimize the app, it goes back to the low-res and not fitting wallpaper I was talking about. This means I need to have WE open and running all the time in the taskbar.

Any way to fix this, or to revert to an older update?

The clone system had a bug where it didn't select the largest monitor to be the source monitor. It does this simply by counting the pixels, the monitor with the most pixels should get the real wallpaper and all clones will get a fitted copy.

What resolutions do all of your monitors have and which one seems to be low res now?

Both screens are 1920x1080, although the vertical one shows as having 1080x1920 in Windows.

The main screen (horizontal) is the one that seems low res now while the vertical one doesn't fit the entire screen.

This wasn't an issue before the update since it fitted perfectly on both screens (making the main screen full res and showing the entire wallpaper, and the vertical screen having the same one as the main screen but zoomed in, which looked cool)

If the horizontal screen is your primary screen in Windows, then at least by design it should still be picking this one but it sounds like it isn't. When there are multiple screens with the same resolution it will just pick the first one Windows provides right now so maybe that's not the primary screen on your PC.

So in your specific situation it is actually still supposed to prioritize the horizontal screen, please try this on the beta where I made it start off with the primary screen before searching for the most suitable one: http://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/2/350544272219415004/

However, if you were to change your vertical monitor in the future to have a higher resolution for example, it will prioritize that one because it's just bigger and therefore should be the one that hosts the wallpaper.

I'm having the exact same issues only my monitors are two different sizes. Everything was fine up until the recent update.

I don't know if this will help at all, but if you manually put the wallpaper that you want on one screen, then proceed to put it on the other, it fixes the issue with it prioritizing your other monitor. (that's assuming you're only using one wallpaper)

Yes, then there is no cloning. For cloning, the program must pick the monitor that is biggest as the source monitor, I don't know the resolution of your screens so i don't know if there is a bug or not.

Previously if you had a 4k and a 1080p screen in the wrong order and you used cloning, it would put a 1080p wallpaper on both screens. The correct way to deal with this is figuring out which screen is larger and using that screen as the reference, this is just how it has to be. Mixing vertical and horizontal monitors is not good with cloning because something gets cropped inherently.

If you apply the wallpapers directly without cloning, it will render both at their native resolution, so yeah, for mixing vertical and horizontal monitors doing it that way would be better in any case.

Yay! Installing the beta has fixed the issue, it's back to normal again, thanks!

Thanks for checking.

Just as a heads up, I decided to make the program always prioritize horizontal screens for cloning since most wallpapers on the Workshop are using that aspect ratio. And if even both of you, who use a vertical screen, don't want the vertical screen to be the priority I guess the number of people who would want it that way would have to be even lower.

So that means if vertical and horizontal screens are mixed in clone mode then the wallpaper will always be aligned to the horizontal screen and the vertical screen will get the cropped result. If this is not wanted, for example because someone uses 3 vertical screens and a projector, then the projector just needs to be excluded from the clone group I guess.

I’m having this same issue right now where it’s displaying the second monitor wallpaper in just the center of the screen. I’ve tried doing what I’ve read here but I don’t know what to do it was fine til about a couple days ago.

I've been having a similar issue since the last update where every wallpaper change will flicker on my 2nd vertical monitor first before going onto my main (horizontal) monitor and in doing so causes some lag while it figures it out. Never happened before the last update

Hi there, I have 3 monitors, one vertical. I have Wallpaper engine set to only display on my middle monitor. Since the latest update when my middle monitor (wallpaper engine) wallpaper changes the wallpaper will show up quickly and flicker away on the other monitors too. Are there any settings I need to change or is there a bug fix needed? Thanks!

This is an old topic from 2019 which is unrelated to the issues you are having. The problem that you are discussing now is already fixed on the latest beta as far as I can tell:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/1/1746720717352689476/

Please create a new thread if the issue isn't fixed on the beta for you, thank you!
