Does window capture with OBS still work?
I found several threads talking about using window capture in OBS but I can not get it to work. The screen is always black when I try it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't changed anything about it, but I guess it was never really working 100%.

I was thinking about adding an option for detached wallpapers somehow but never got around to it. If there was a button in the browser to open a single wallpaper in a popped out window, that you can resize and target with OBS, would that be good enough?

@Biohazard as long as it worked it would be absoluty fantastic! I am mostly wanting to make it so that I could have it as a scene to switch to when I "do behind the scene" kind of things. Thank you so much for replying. Great job on this program.

Alright I added this. There will be a new option named 'play in window' in the context menu of a wallpaper. It will apply the settings that the wallpaper would receive if you would apply it to the monitor, but there is no way to update them in real time like with the actual wallpaper.

OBS detects it as a normal window and you can resize it, it defaults to 1920x1080.

There are probably countless things I could add but for an intermediate solution it's probably okay.

@Biohazard I got the update and it does work for some of the wallpapers. The ones that are web type do not work for some reason. Will use the ones that do for now. If you know of anything I can do to get the others working I would appreciate it. Thank you so much for what you added.

Np, which web wallpaper did you try? I tried 'VU Meter' and it worked, but it was the only web one I tried out with this.

I tried a bunch but to just name a few.

I went and tried VU Meter and it does not work for me either. I have a new install of Windows 64bit, Nivida GTX 1080, 32 GB Ram, and AMD Ryzen threadripper 1950X 16 Core but running in game mode at the moment. Not sure what is causing it to not work for me. I have the latest OBS Studio.

Hm I might have misunderstood. I was thinking that it doesn't even show up, but you perhaps meant that it can't be recorded in OBS.

Try adding this into the CEF command line option in the general settings before you open it:

--disable-d3d11

I hope I put that in the right place. I put it in launch options for the wallpaper engine. If so it didn't fix it. What happens is the wallpaper shows fine in the popout window but will not show up at all as I get a back window in obs when i do the web ones. The others work fine and show up.

If you open the settings and go to the general tab, at the bottom is an option called 'CEF command line', that's where you have to paste it.

That did it!!! <3 <3 Thank you so much.

Alright, I guess I could set this up by default for the pop out window later. I think OBS has trouble recording Chromiums renderer here somehow, although my scene system uses the same (DirectX11), so it's strange.

I will keep an eye out for that change and remove the setting if that is done. Once again thank you very much for all the help.

Hello, today is 12/22/2020 and this thread is still very relevant. Thank god I saw this thread because for the life of me I couldn't make the Wallpaper Pop-Out window show up or run in the Window Capture feature of OBS. The CEF command line solved it hands down. Thanks! :steamhappy:
