Black screen after boot :steamfacepalm:
Hi there, I've been having this issue since last month, every time I restart my laptop (acer predator g9-593) I cant get to the logon screen, since the screen goes black after the boot logo, key board and everything else seems to be working( my work around is to put the laptop to sleep via hotkeys then wake it up and the screen goes live), I've formatted my ssd 5 times now searching for a cause and I've narrowed it down the issue to wallpaper engine, allow me to elaborate , after every format/reinstall/ putting win up to date/install all my stuff....the laptop runs like a charm, the restart process works as intended BUT when I set wallpaper engine to run on start, I get this black screen at every restart (the screen shuts down its not active pixel black screen, its a no-power black screen but the keyboard and laptop in general seem to be on) I've repeated the chain of events a couple of times now and I can say its Wallpaper engine breaking the video driver, even if I uncheck the startup option in wallpaper engine the problem persists, my fix... DDU in safe mode, then reinstall video driver.. all goes back to normal, I can even use the engine normally if I dont use the * run at startup* option as soon as I check that option it all repeats again .

please help, I love this program

heres a log generated with the engine xdiag utility

Wallpaper Engine does not permanently alter Windows, so if the issue persists even with the automatic startup disabled, Wallpaper Engine cannot be the root cause of your problems. The log file actually contains no errors at all in the Windows logs, so whatever problem you are having is likely on a very low level (as in hardware level).

Try to update your Nvidia drivers, the drivers you are using are surprisingly old even though it sounds like you just did a clean reinstallation?! You can grab them here:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

Also, it looks like you are using DisplayPort, there is a bug with Nvidia 1000 series cards that can cause boots to cause a blank screen when using Displayport and Nvidia released a firmware update for that. Try and see if your card supports the following firmware update, it actually fixed a problem that sounds very similar to yours for my personal computer a while ago:

Hey Tim, thx for answering, I'm aware that Wallpaper engine does not alter windows in any permanent way. seems to be some sort of trigger though, maybe that + something else ( im looking at you windows update) could have caused the issue.

yes my driver is old since its my go to driver for clean installs ( the one in the manufacturer driver product page), I have tried the latest Nvidia driver, same stuff happens.

I cant report if I'm using a display port or not, its probably a yes due the laptop screen needing to be connected to the smallest possible port? the display port update utility software said that the the tool was only for ad-in graphics cards .

Anyways, ill try to install an older win10 build and see whats happening after that

thx for your time, ill be reporting my findings, if i ever get so a solution
