Can't run Wallpaper Engine with nvidia GPU
I can't force Wallpaper Engine to use my GTX 1660 ti. I had set it to run with the nvidia card in the nvidia control panel. I set both x32 and x64 executables and even the WE launcher too. Also I have Geforce Experience launcher (with the 466.47 drivers installed at the moment of writing) but it won't even acknowledge Wallpaper Engine's existence.

The program runs just fine on my integrated intel GPU, but it's very taxing on the poor sucker and it causes that GPU to reach 80-90% load and to heat up substantially. I'm really worried that it'll run the more weaker GPU to death eventially.

Also on the sidenote - I can't run the x64 version of the executable no matter how many times I close the programm and try to run the x64 version manually, it defaults to the x32 every time. The x32 version eats about 25% of my CPU load currently

Are you maybe using a web wallpaper that runs on webwallpaper32.exe ? These always run in 32 Bit (and we generally also recommend using 32 Bit because it is faster / uses less RAM)? Also, try setting the GPU via Windows:

Make sure to properly turn off the app and maybe double-check that all processes are really gone from the Task Manager process list:

wallpaper32.exe
wallpaper64.exe
webwallpaper32.exe
ui32.exe
launcher.exe

Ty for trying to help me. I just had tried to set high performance mode trough the windows graphics menu as the guide recommends, but it still uses my integrated intel GPU. I did turn off the autoloading in the WE setting and restarted my PC before tampering with the windows graphics setting, so all the WE processes were halted for sure.

Also I don't think that I'm using a web wallpaper - all i use is a simple interactive animation "3D Polygon Interactive" by TheBone_

If this is the wallpaper:

Then it's indeed a web wallpaper that is rendered by webwallpaper32.exe. Make sure to change that .exe's profile, changing wallpaper32.exe or wallpaper64.exe will have no effect at all since they are not running when using this wallpaper.

Yes, you are right, that was wery lousy of me to stare at my task manager for hours and not realizing that it says webwallpaper32. I fixed the settings for webwallpaper and now my WE runs with nvidia. I can see the bump in smoothness just like that. However now my desktop window manager skyrockets in GPU load whenever WE is running, so it doesn't really solve my GPU load issue. Is the DWM supposed to do that?

Usually this happens on notebooks with some weird internal wiring or on desktop computers where a user has plugged in their display into the internal (Intel) graphics card instead of the dedicated (Nvidia) graphics card. Basically when DWM usage is high, it means the explorer and Wallpaper Engine don't run on the same GPU.

If you are using a notebook, there isn't much you can do to fix this as far as I know, it means that really Wallpaper Engine should run on your Intel GPU. You could try and experiment around by setting explorer.exe and DWM.exe to run on your Nvidia GPU as well (system restart probably necessary) but I actually never tested if that works. Feel free to give that a try and report back.

Oh wow, didn't expect you to ansver me after this long. Yeah, I tried to mingle with the dwm.exe itself, but nothing came out of it. I even tried to tinker with BIOS, but there isn't even an option to select the designated GPU as the default. I think that it's becuse they sold me the laptop with an outdated BIOS, and right now I can't be bothered to dig trough the official MSI drivers list in order to update my BIOS. Lets just agree that at this point you did everything you could to help me. Regards!
