no i dont think it could help. but i will definetly try it when im done with my game.
Do you have Windows 7 by chance? Unfortunately Microsoft does not support 4k on Windows 7 in the video player.
If that's not it, it may be a third-party codec interfering.
Cheers
Yeah I do.. Damn it
Guess yours DeepSpace will do for now!
If you are feeling adventurous, you could probably try using a codec pack like 'K-Lite' and see if you can configure it to somehow enable 4k support. But trying that may do more harm than good in this case (someone else seemed to have additional issues because of K-Lite being installed). So I wouldn't really recommend it based on that.
Yo, first of all thanks for the nice program here, i like it :)
I'm on Win 7 too and didn't want to change to 10.
Is there realy no way to get us 4k somehow?
Would love to use my 1440p Screen in all of its gloury :D
Unfortunately I don't know of any better solution so far. In theory there might be a codec from some pack that might make this possible - basically any Windows Media Player/Media Foundation codec should be picked up by Wallpaper Engine through Windows too.
So if there's a way to enable 4k support for mp4/H.264 in WMP on Win7, it should also make it possible here.
Yeah, there is something different between the W.E. implementation and WMP. On Win7 I can get WMP to use a handful of 4k enabled decoders just fine, but enabling these causes all video backgrounds to stop working. No error message, just a white background and high cpu use from W.E.
Which decoders are those exactly? Are they from some public pack I can try?
But the fact that they affect Wallpaper Engine in some way probably proves that Windows seems to select the custom decoder at least, so I'm not really sure where to go from there yet.
LAV or ffdshow decoder
LAV or Haali splitter
same result for either. WMP works. W.E. white background with no error message.
The thing is, in fact, that Microsoft has abandoned DirectShow since Vista/Win7 and since then asks everyone to use Media Foundation instead. I don't know if DirectShow even supports H.264 natively at all or if that has been made possible through community codecs only.
DS native format support:

Edit:
Also, the built in H.264 DirectShow codec wouldn't help us much. It only supports decoding videos up to 1920x1088. All users would have to install codecs to enable 4k support.
