Keeps updating
I updated this abomination for 10 times now, please stop this.

It was funny for the first two or three tries but not anymore. FIX IT.

The last update has been in December. I don't know if you are talking about Steam downloading stuff all the time for no reason or the program itself showing the update dialog or something else entirely.

If it keeps showing the update dialog then it must be failing because it isn't allowed to write to your drive properly. It should show an error then and which files are affected though.

So is either of that your issue or something else entirely?

Steam says "Update required". I'm currently subscribed to 1 Workshop item but no matter how often i update, Steam comes back to me with a new ghost update and i'm getting pretty tired of this. I have Wallpaper Engine installed for a decent amount of time (timestamp 18.11.2018) and i never had this issue before. It's getting on my nerves since today. Also i can update every other game or program on this same drive.

Edit: Almost forgot, no error shown nor files that could be affected, it's pretty much a Steam thing, since the program itself never runs at any given time.

Yes, unfortunately, that's a problem in Steam alone. I have no control over how the subscription system or its downloads work and Valve (who owns Steam) won't improve this until more players complain to them directly by i.e. sending them a ticket about Steam from their support page. If you do this make sure to choose 'Steam' support and not 'Game' support because that's just their trick in redirecting you to me even though you are trying to contact them.

If you only have this since today then it's worth just waiting a couple of days to see if Steam can sort it out by itself.

Otherwise I would suggest you follow this and simply unsubscribe the item afterwards: https://wallpaper-engine.fandom.com/wiki/Backup_Steam_Workshop then you can be sure that it's not Workshop related.

And finally Steam is extremely well known for this 0 kbyte update thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/8k3b2l/what_are_0_byte_updates_on_steam/ and I don't think this is Workshop related but just a general Steam issue Valve appears to be unable to fix since forever.

Pretty weird, as soon as i unsubscribed from the only Workshop item i had (can't remember what it was, sadly), the update notice magically disappeared.

So it was related to the Workshop. I have another program that has the same issue (Controller Companion) but there i have bunchloads of items (probably 100), so i need to figure out which one it is.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated. ;)

Edit: Nope, i guess i spoke too soon. Still get those ghost updates.

I don't know what else to do with this, looks like i have to get along with it.

Edit again: Apparently there were two files missing from the wallpaper_engine\assets\materials\util folder after verifying the application files, maybe that will do.
