GPU Idle Temps
Hello all!

Before using Wallpaper Engine, my gpu (1080) would be at idle temperatures at 30 C. Ever since I started using it, I now get idle temperatures at 53 C. I turned off anti-aliasing, post-processing, and reflections, and my fps is at 20, but it still idles at 53. Note that I have a 1440p monitor running at 165 hz.

Is the temperature only high because of my monitor? Is there anyway to lower idle temps?

While the clock rate is relatively high, the GPU is at 4% load in your second screenshot so it's really not that bad. I assume the combination of high resolution and medium complex scene wallpaper makes the clock rate spike a bit higher than it would for most users, but it's not much of a concern as mid-50°C is still okay for a GTX1080 idling during summer time and even your GPU fan is not active yet. I generally would not worry too much about it but if it's a big concern, try simpler / better optimized wallpapers.

Well, what wallpapers are you using? Limiting the FPS and turning off all effects is only relevant if the specific wallpapers support it or if they are not complex without those things already.

Also, you might want to check the GPU load and see how busy it really is. Keep in mind that you need to use extra software for that since Task Manager is not reliable when it comes to GPU load - we did a write-up on that here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/2/2949168687316274454/

Thanks for the reply.

This is what the gpu loads look like before and after using Wallpaper Engine. Excluding the stock wallpapers, every wallpaper I downloaded makes the gpu load spike that high.

Since this thread is from 2018, please create a new thread and share links to the wallpapers you are using (you can click the copy URL button on the right in the wallpaper browser to get a link) and ideally this log so we can see all of your settings: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/debug/scantool.html

Make sure to check GPU-Z for GPU load and not the task manager since the task manager is misleading as explained here: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/performance/gpu.html
