How do I make sure Steam and Wallpaper Engine are not started as Adminstrator?
I don't use accounts on my computer. I have one single account and it has administrator rights. Wallpaper Engine can't connect to the workshop and it tells me both Steam and Wallpaper Engine should not be run as Administrator. Google only tells me how to a non-admin user can run stuff with admin-rights, but I'm looking for the reversed. How can I make sure these programs start as non-admin, without having to hassle with multiple accounts on my PC?

You are confusing things here (but no worries, it's confusing). When people say "start as administrator", they mean right-clicking on an .exe file and selecting "Start as administrator". This is not to be confused with "running a program as an account which has administrative rights". If you have never manually done this, then Steam and Wallpaper Engine should both not be executed with administrator rights.

I think you probably misinterpreted the error message, it simply lists this as one of the reasons as to why Wallpaper Engine is not able to work with Steam. It's more likely that you are running some sort of antivirus or firewall software which is blocking Wallpaper Engine / Steam from communicating with each other or the Steam servers.

Ok thanks. That means I need to find the cause of the problem elsewhere. Is there a way I can tell my virusscanner that it doesn't need to worry about Wallpaper Engine, without completely turning off my virusscanner? Is Avast known to cause problems? Is there a way to tell it *is* in face the virusscanner causing problems, or something else?

Well, the best way to find out if your virus scanner is the problem is to turn it off completely temporarily and see if the problem goes away. You might need to re-install Wallpaper Engine and definitely restart it for this to take effect. I can't comment on how to configure Avast specifically, just try to go through its settings and see if you can find a way to ignore folders / executables. However, please first try what I wrote above, turn it off completely, re-install Wallpaper Engine and see if the problem persists, otherwise you are potentially wasting time.
