Anyway to display multiple images at once?

I'm considering whether or not to buy Wallpaper Engine to substitute the default Windows slideshow background.

Is it possible when going through the slideshow shuffle, to have, for example, 2 portrait images smashed side by side, or 1 portrait image on the left and 2 lanscape images on the right, so there's no empty background?

You can split a monitor and create a layout with multiple rectangles, then place a 'playlist' on each split. But this program is not meant for static images, it is only for live wallpapers (images animated in its editor, videos, websites, apps).
