WE taking 100% GPU with Adobe Lightroom
Couple of days ago my PC started to lag terribly whenever I opened Lightroom. I've been getting 1fps in minecraft when lightroom is open. I know lightroom has virtually nonexsistent optimization but it was never this bad. So today I opened task manager and I realized that wallpaper engine was using 100% GPU. It only lags really bad when lightroom is open, but its not lightroom thats causing the lag. Did a recent update cause WE to be incompatible with Lighroom?

I mean, I can even screen cast it or something, I've sent logs - Video Hardware Acceleration in Lightroom Classic in tandem with WE brings computers to their knees.

We would just need files to try and reproduce it on our end. But most likely it would show that the driver is kicking Wallpaper Engine off the GPU over and over for no legitimate reason and telling it that it needs to reset.

Wallpaper Engine doesn't touch Lightroom of course and I doubt that Lightroom touches other applications (but of course I can't know for sure). Both are using the graphics card and most likely that's where the issue is, some kind of bug is being triggered because graphics drivers are rarely working without bugs.

I would suggest making an 'application rule' in Wallpaper Engine and setting it to 'stop' the wallpapers while Lightroom is running. This will completely unload them so there can't be a conflict happening in the drivers anymore. You can find the menu for the rules on the first page next to the automatic pausing options.

Im experiencing the same problems as i'm running dual monitor setup so one monitor has WE active most of the time. I pulled up both MSI afterburner and Taskmanager and im looking at 100% GPU use at idle. When i've paused WE, GPU use goes back down to minimal. Also, i can see that while WE is active, the core clock on my GPU is at its highest.

The only noticible difference from running idle and playing a GPU intensive game is that the power draw isn't as high as playing a game. For now, i have to keep WE paused but i hope there will be a solution soon.

Not sure what settings you have changed but when I run a game or something full screen it automatically pauses WE by default for me to a still image and GPU goes use goes down. Can check use/if it drops if you run task manager and move it in and out of full screen mode.

Hey, just to make sure I get the whole picture. Can you run our scan tool the exact moment this issue occurs for you and share the log file as described here?

Please make sure to do this while the GPU usage is that high, otherwise the scan might not contain anything useful. Also please let me know which wallpaper(s) you are using while this issue occurs.

I have run the scan tool and it said nothing was wrong. I switched to a different wallpaper and that seemed to fix the issue. I guess it was particular with that wallpaper.
i've run into this issue with certain wallpapers and just end up deleting them after i notice it

I am also receiving this bug. The program works fine but the second I launch light room everything slowly drags to a halt and this program is the culprit using 100% GPU. I know Adobe just upped their integration with loading processing on to the GPU which perhaps is some sort of conflict with this application - tough to say.

Could you run the scan tool and share the log file as described in the link I mentioned above? Please share the log file even when it says no conflict was found.

Hi Tim. It has occurred again so I slogged through the diag while it was happening.

See the following pastebin: https://pastebin.com/TEPKDWiV

Okay, I am really not sure what the issue could be, generally, Wallpaper Engine does not actively interact with other applications and Lightroom also does not seem to really do anything with Wallpaper Engine, so I am not entirely sure why the GPU usage would randomly go up there. Just to be on the safe side, could you download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website and during the setup make sure to tick the "Clean re-installation" checkbox and see if this maybe alleviates the issue?

There's clearly some sort of conflict with Lightroom with this application and video backgrounds. I'll flush the drivers but I'm skeptical that will resolve the issue.

I have just tried to test this and it works perfectly fine on my system. Lightroom uses a lot of video RAM but if it runs fine on my GTX 1080, it should run fine on your GTX 2080. If re-installing drivers does not work, please let me know what steps you might be taking that I am not taking to reproduce this issue.

If you solve the issue, please also let me know, I am definitely curious either way.

When I edit in LR in true fullscreen (shift f) but then the second I go to windowed the whole thing chugs and tanks until I close Wallpaper Engine. Clearly I'm not alone in this issue, but will find some time to troubleshoot more. Im in my busy editing season and don't really have the luxary of bashing my head off this.

Did you have graphics card processing turned on in LR? Did you try out some editing - usually it doesnt happen right away but rather over time and gets worse and worse.

Hi, I had the exact same issue with my setup.
The huge load seemed to happen every time I tried using a 4k+ Resolution Wallpaper with several hundred MB of (Video?) data. 1080P/FULLHD Wallpapers seem to take way less power.

System:
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Eight-Core ( 3600.0 MHz )
32 GBytes DDR4 (2x Corsair CMK32GX4M2B3000C15)
Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Series 8GB GDDR5 (Driver: Adrenalin 19.9.2WHQL)

Issue was almost entirely GONE the moment I deactivated "Video Hardware Acceleration" (only about 25%load)

This started a couple of weeks ago (last Graphic driver update + last Wallpaper Engine update)

Just to be sure: Are you also using Adobe Lightroom? Because that's what this topic is about.

It makes sense that it's gone when you turn off hardware acceleration as that moves all the load from the GPU to the CPU. I have yet to reproduce this issue with Lightroom so maybe you could also share your system details by sharing the log file from your scan tool:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/1/3307213006836797842/

Other than that, we could really just need a copy of a Lightroom project (which would be fully deleted after testing) in order to see how we can reproduce this problem.
