Wallpaper Engine

Statistiche:
32-bit in task manager
I'm launching wallpaper engine from my steam library and selecting the 64-bit option, but when I open up my task manager, it shows it as (32-bit). I just want to know if it's just saying that or if I'm actually just running the 32-bit version even when I select the 64-bit option.

If it's still running, Steam will actually just send a message to the running program to open the browse window. So if you want to switch the bitness you need to fully close it through the tray icon first.

So I launched the engine from my steam as 64-bit, and even though it shows up as 32-bit in the task manager, I can't tell if there's a performance difference at all.

If it uses 64-bit it will show up as wallpaper64.exe in the task manager, but you won't notice a performance difference either way.

You only really need the 64-bit version if you want to preload enormous video wallpapers into the RAM (2GB+).
Hmm, it's not working for me then, because even if I select the 64-bit option, it's only displaying as 32-bit in the task manager.

Did you close it over the tray icon before starting the 64-bit version? If you don't close it, it will not replace the running wallpaper process.
I have this same problem still today a year later. I've closed it manually, unset the autostart in settings, etc.

Manually launching wallpaper64.exe on a 64bit windows machine, still continues to launch the 32bit version.

*Edit* my mistake. It's just the window that opens that is in 32bit. The backround process looks to be correctly in 64bit.

Mostly people get confused that the user interface is called ui32.exe. The real wallpaper process is called wallpaper64.exe. Web type wallpapers are always executed by a 32-bit executable called "webwallpaper32.exe".

Make sure to turn the app off first, then relaunch the app via Steam with the 64 Bit option. Then head to the "General" tab of the settings and turn the automatic startup off and back on to register the 64 bit version as a new default.

That said, we don't recommend using the 64 Bit version unless you really need to. It just uses more RAM and does not offer any benefits unless you launch really large wallpapers (4 GB+) which is extremely unusual.
Then why is this not changed?
