MSI Afterburner
I know this has been mentioned before but I thought it won't hurt to bring it back up. I can confirm for myself anyway that RivaTuner isn't the problem for wallpaper engine causing my computer to crash. It is however the option in afterburner called "Enable low-level IO driver" it doesn't bug me too much that I have to leave this option disabled. However it took me about 30 constant computer restarts to figure it out, my problem however is that unticking that option disables temperature monitoring which I honestly need when I'm using the osd. Anyway to get to the point I was wondering if this could be fixed or an option to be added to wallpaper engine itself to stop conflicting with that specfic setting in afterburner, anything for me to be able to use both together would be awesome.

Have you excluded the wallpaper engine processes from the program's hook list?

Are you sure that you also disabled Rivatuner Statistics Server when you tested? That one is what is injecting its conflicting code into Wallpaper Engine and where you need to exclude Wallpaper Engine.

The problem is that I'm already doing nothing to other applications, so I can't do any less. I don't know what that setting in Afterburner does, but judging from the name, it does something dangerous to the graphics driver.

Yep Rivatuner did nothing for the crash it was only that one option in Afterburner. Kinda sucks too because I would have preferred rss to be the problem since I could just simply exclude it but life isn't that easy haha. I honestly would test it more but after 30 hard computer crashes I'm 99% sure it's that option in afterburner that's the problem for me anyway, it just conflicts with wallpaper engine and I don't know why.

Okay so I'm a bit stubborn when it comes to fixing things I went back to testing it and can confirm that I was originally wrong. Afterburner and wallpaper engine conflict with each other only if "Enable low-level hardware access interface" is ticked and you can actually leave "Enable low-level IO driver" ticked. Anyway I fixed my problem not the best solution but it works, I won't delete the post just in case some other poor soul has this problem like I did.

I can only make random guesses about the issue, but I presume it stems from Afterburner doing something to the driver at the same time as Wallpaper Engine starting up and initializing its windows and graphics to display anything. So besides just not causing a conflict, a fix could involve making Windows start them in a specific order, there is just no easy way to control that afaik.

I will add the info about "Enable low-level hardware access interface" to the FAQ, thanks for sharing and testing it more.

No problem, glad I could help! It was a pain for me but at least we know what the problem was.
