PC Freezes at Desktop
Hello. I've had Wallpaper Engine for a couple weeks now and it's pretty cool. However, I have an annoying issue that isn't consistent, but is seemingly related to WE. I have come to this conclusion because I have never had my PC freeze before installing and using WE. I'd say it's about a 50% chance that during my PC opening startup processes, everything will just freeze and I can't do anything.

I'll go ahead and describe my issue more in depth. Windows loads up, I am presented with my desktop. First, my taskbar loads and I can see my old wallpaper (picture wallpaper, not WE). I can see icons filling up in my taskbar as they load. Lastly, I see Discord loading on my screen with the spinning logo and that's when it freezes. This has been the last thing I've seen in all instances of the freeze occuring. I have no recollection of ever seeing the wallpapers I use in WE load up when it does freeze. That being said, when ti does work correctly - my WE wallpapers should load directly after Discord is finished loading. Hopefully this makes everything a bit more clear.

After the freeze, none of my key strokes are registered and I am forced to perform a hard shutdown. I'm hoping I can get some help to resolve this soon. For the time being, I'll probably just exclude Wallpaper Engine from my list of startup programs. Thanks for your time.

It's been nearly a week now since I've stopped using Wallpaper Engine on startup. I haven't had any freezing issues since then. However, this is merely a temporary workaround. What I'd like is to find a solution to this issue.

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in Discord. At least others have reported that they had issues with it and Wallpaper Engine together.

Also, I have noticed that opening task manager stop the freezing temporarily. Use Ctrl + Shift + Esc a and then do a proper shut down to prevent possible damge to your system by constantly doing a hard restart

Well if it freezes at all there is some kind of conflict or driver bug going on.

Thanks for some comments. Unfortunately today it did actually freeze again even without Wallpaper Engine as a startup task. It did this at the same part too - during Discord startup. I don't understand what could be causing this to happen and as ttower said, I don't want to keep performing the hard shutdown. My PC was working absolutely fine for about two months without this startup freeze. The only other thing that has changed that I can think of besides getting Wallpaper Engine, is having a second monitor. Any other ideas?

Well the problem with that suggestion is that I'm not usually near my PC when this happens. I turn it on and walk away to go do something. I come back to see Discord mid-loading and I am unable to move the cursor or register key strokes. I appreciate the comment, but even if I could do that and it did work - that's only a temporary workaround. I'd like to find a complete resolution.

Hm if it happened without Wallpaper Engine running then it couldn't be related to it - there is nothing changed by it unless the program is actually started.

Maybe you could try to remove Discord from auto start or check if your current graphics driver version causes it. If other people have this issue with the exact same driver version you might find some information about that through Google. If you have any overclocking programs auto starting you might want to disable those too.

Hey Bio. Thanks for responding. Yeah, I realized that it wasn't Wallpaper Engine when it froze on me again today. It just seemed that it was because the issue hadn't occured for a week when I had turned off the auto startup.

Anyway, I tried to search for it on google as you suggested and was unable to find anything about the entire PC freezing up on startup due to Discord or in relation to the graphics driver. I only saw posts about Discord itself freezing or crashing.

I understand that this may not be directly related to the start up of the WE software, but this issue started around the same time I had purchased it and started using it. So if anyone has any other ideas, I'd greatly appreciate some feedback so I may try to get this resolved. Thanks.

Did you try removing as many programs from startup as possible to narrow down which one is causing it?

I've tried a few, but that isn't exactly reliable because it's not consistent. The freezing that is. It's only happening sometimes. It seemed like every other day it was freezing, but then after removing WE from start up, it didn't have that occurence again until the 7th. I can keep trying removing start up programs, but it'd probably take several days to narrow down. I'll have to see.
