Anyways, I recall reading recently a post from another User who mentioned that if you go into the Settings for Wallpaper Engine, on the General tab change the Graphics API option to OpenGL, OK it and then that FPS display no longer showed for wallpapers. They also mentioned they didn't seem to notice any difference in quality of the wallpapers either and everything was working fine for them.
I mean it's not the end of the world, it's just a little annoying so I was wondering if there was a possible way to hide it because I know there isn't a way to exclude specific programs on Nvidias end.
We're talking about the (optional) GeForce Experience software, which includes the FPS counter (A.K.A ShadowPlay). I'm running the latest version (382.53) of the Nvidia controlpanel software (which is basically the driver software) and there is no per-application switch for the FPS counter, presumably because you only need the driver software to use your Nvidia GPU to the fullest.
So, unless Nvidia adds a per-application switch to their driver software, we won't be able to turn of the FPS counter for Wallpaper Engine, as it uses DirectX for rendering. I tried switching to OpenGL (), but that didn't work either.
The latest version seems to have done something because I'm not seeing the FPS counter op my desktop currently. I will post an update after I've investigated this.
For those that keep having this problem, you could try out the Display Driver Uninstaller[docs.google.com] (DDU) tool. A third party tool to get rid of all traces left by Nvidia's software. Please take note that this might also delete any custom settings you're using!
Edit: @Biohazard: Maybe move this thread to Bugs or Suggestions?
Yeah, it's fixed for all APIs, but I've tested some more: after reinstall and restarting your PC, the FPS counter won't shop up, BUT if you restart Wallpaper Engine, the counter is displayed again. So: as long as you don't quit Wallpaper Engine, you won't get the FPS counter on your desktop.
This obviously won't work very well because when there is a new update available, Wallpaper Engine has to be restarted. So yeah, there's no working fix available until Nvidia adds a per-application switch for the FPS counter in their GeForce Experience software.
Edit: I recommend using FRAPS (only FPS) or CAM (FPS, Memory usage, PU usage and more) if you really want to see an FPS counter.
