Aero Error Message?

Failed to enable Aero. Ive looked through the aero discussion boards and have tried most fixes but for some reason I continue to get the error message.

Okay, Aero is definitely not on. (Even with transparency off, the close, minimize button etc would look slightly different)

It's possible that some other application causes Aero to be disabled, you could use the event viewer to see if there are any infos about that: http://superuser.com/a/404692

Ok after looking through the event viewer I think it might be one of these errors causing the problems.
1. Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
2. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine ConvertStringSidToSid(S-1-5-21-2202081658-1364467630-2910874060-1000.bak). hr = 0x80070539, The security ID structure is invalid.

Hmm if you look at the first post from that link, I think the error message you are looking for should be something like this:

The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application

A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (Windows System Assessment Tool)

I think I may have found the problem, could it be a color depth display problem?

Yeah, it seems so, I tried 16 bit color in my VM and it disabled Aero too.

So its could likely a monitor problem? It says my monitor is less than 24 bits per pixel.

Since it was working sometimes before, I would be surprised if there was no way to make it work there. But if you have another monitor that works for you, then it's all good I suppose!

For anyone else having this problem, try hitting Windows + R, typing services.msc and putting the Themes service to automatic in the properties, and restart it / start it if it's off.

Was this problem ever solved, because I get this all the time too. the other day it completely froze my computer when I tried to close the error like usual.

Well in this thread it was just the monitor being limited to 16-bit. You can enable Aero in Windows itself, it isn't a Wallpaper Engine feature, it's just a system requirement: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2066988/enable-window-transparency-aero-windows.html
