Unsolicited hooks crashing Wallpaper Engine
Back to FAQ: LINK

The following applications can sometimes crash Wallpaper Engine and cause other issues. You can avoid this by excluding Wallpaper Engine in them. They inject code into the app that doesn't work right.

If you have frequent issues with these tools, please contact the developers of these programs who are responsible. They may not be aware or may not prioritize fixing their problems - after all they are causing other software to crash and it doesn't get reported to them nearly as often as here. A lonely developer asking them to fix their bugs sometimes does not suffice. They need to hear this from their customers.

Wallpaper Engine can do nothing about these. Such hooks work like game cheats and Wallpaper Engine cannot defend from such an attack.

Nahimic
Overlay causes total crashes. Audio hook disables audio visualizers. May cause performance issues. Look for settings to disable the overlay or try renaming its overlay and audio hook DLL files so it can't hack into other programs.

I posted officially on Nahimics website here[nahimic.helprace.com]. Upvote that and show them that they finally need to fix their program.
NOTE: They deleted my bug report without leaving a comment and fixed nothing at all. However I have managed to increase Wallpaper Engine's defenses against Nahimic in the meantime but if you still have issues please see this post: https://steamcommunity.com/app/431960/discussions/2/1798529872653377139/#c1681441347889540574 (Thanks RedIon1992)

You can also try to find the Nahimic DLLs that are causing this and rename/remove then. This may fix the crash and Nahimic could partially continue to work. Otherwise, without their developers fixing this, you could only close or uninstall it.

Sonic Suite
The OSD is crashing Wallpaper Engine. Audio hook disables audio visualizers. May cause performance issues. Disable the OSD to fix the crash if it has an option for that, it is broken.

ASUS seems to be responsible. Contact ASUS here[www.asus.com] so they finally fix this.

Afterburner
If you experience issues with Afterburner alone, disable the setting "Enable low-level hardware access interface" OR "Enable low-level IO driver" within Afterburner (Settings > General > compatibility properties).

RivaTuner (should be fixed by them now, update it)
Open RTSS (RivaTuner Statistics Server) with its tray icon. Add wallpaper32.exe and wallpaper64.exe from the installation path of Wallpaper Engine. Set 'detection level' to none.

Precision X (should be fixed by them now, update it)
You can exclude Wallpaper Engine from Precision X by clicking on the Precision X Server tray icon and simply adding it to the list: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4nq9gr/anyone_know_how_to_exclude_certain_programs_from/ If you cannot find it, look for 'Precision X Server' in the installation directory of EVGA's tool.

GameDVR (rarely a problem)
It is enabled by default on Windows 10 and could cause issues. Try disabling it like this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6239-DZCB-8600

Action!
Exclude it like this[mirillis.com]. Add wallpaper32.exe, wallpaper64.exe, webwallpaper32.exe and ui32.exe to be sure.

XtremeTuner Plus
Some other program that injects an overlay and just crashes all over the place. Don't know if it has an exclusion list. You could consider deleting it since it seems very unstable.

This might sound like a stupid question, but like games do you have to have steam running once you have your wallpaper selected ?

Well I'm still waiting for EVGA to take care of it, didn't know that XOC has no server tool. I think you might have to launch it manually though by going to its install directory - XOC is the one that is on Steam, right?

But yeah if you disable the hook (the OSD features I guess?) then it stops injecting itself.

And lastly it's also possible to binary patch their .exe files to exclude Wallpaper Engine by default.

nah the XOC version is just the newer version of Precision X that was redone because of some riva tuner copyright stuff that went down i believe, but ill check real quick for the server file in directory......and u were correct in looking in the install folder for precision, found the server exe, took a bit for it to load up but once it did i added launcher exe and wallpaper 64 exe and turned back on the osd in precision and didnt get the error so far. Like i said though its not a big deal not even using the OSD since i have a second monitor so no worries regardless but i would def suggest to let ppl know that the server exe is in the install and that is only way to access it since it dont run in task bar like old precision.

So ty for the info and obviously awesome program :)

How do you exclude something using MSI afterburner? Also this program seems awesome but I can't but imagine that it might create tons of memory leak after a while.

You can exclude things from Afterburner using the RivaTuner Statistics Server that comes with it, it has an icon in the tray to do this.

There are no genuine memory leaks I know about right now, but, coincidentally, RivaTuner's hook might cause leaks, because it corrupts the application in memory so anything can happen.

Alright, I'll give it a try and see if any problems come up.
