Does it show "processing content" or "uploading content"?

Either way though it seems that Steam is not completing the operation and not even triggering an error. How long did you wait? Does it time out after a while and show an error message?

Iirc the process isn't cancellable at that point, so I hope Steam does at least time out eventually...

Do you mean on the Workshop website or inside the app when you click on file - open - delete?

I can just make some guesses, but have you imported any files that were read-only? I think deletion would fail then, not sure if it would affect Steam though.

I guess the problem is on Steam's side?

Yeah it's frustrating when some stuff doesn't work that you don't have much control over, i think I could make an endless list at this point. If it's an error I made I could at least fix it.

Very few users (well, two so far) actually had the entire app just freeze dead when initializing Steamworks. Unlikely that it's something on my end since it's just one line of code and everything else is happening in Steam + Steamworks libraries.

But back to your issue, yes, 10 minutes should be long enough. Could you upload the files somewhere? They should be in wallpaper_engine/projects/myprojects . I could try if I could repro it with them or if there is anything strange going on. Subscribing to Workshop wallpapers and using those works fine for you though?

Hm that's weird yes, but at least it works. I guess it must be a Steam issue then, or possibly your upload speed being less than usual just now?

You can delete those. The only potential problem is, that it becomes difficult to update them again, since the project is gone. It's still possible but it requires messing with the project a bit and entering the old ID of the upload.

Hm yeah, that comes from Steam, all that is written in the Steamworks SDK is "generic failure". There are around 50 more specific error messages, but this one has no information to it.

I've found with large'ish files upload times can be slow from time to time.

Have the same problem here and now, I will let it uploading overnight and see if it does the trick. :v

I have made 1gb wallpaper and after 2hours it went from 35% to 55% only...

Well this is all on Steam, maybe you can use a different content server in the Steam settings, but I don't know if that even affects uploads. Maybe you can make it a bit smaller too.

I have the same problem that i cant upload it. When i try to upload it it goes fast from 0% to 45% (then it shows uploading content) and then instantly shows the generic error and i can only retry it. In that case just waiting dont even help, right? Because the upload stops at this point. And how often i try to upload it, i always have this problem. Afterwards i have and empty file in my steam workshop and even after deleting this it dont work. I read about deleting the config.json but that also doesnt work.

Are there any files copied to this place while you try to upoad or is this directory empty: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\projects\temp\publish ?
Aya Jun 18, 2017 @ 11:53am
Theres the file of the project i was about to publish. Do i just need to delete it to be able to upload?
Aya Jun 18, 2017 @ 11:57am
I removed the files from that folder and tried to publish it again, but it didnt worked again... Just the same error at 45%
Biohazard  [developer] Jun 18, 2017 @ 12:01pm
No no, it's good that there are files.

This error can happen if there are no files, because Steam cannot create an empty item. But in your case Steam is causing this problem, not Wallpaper Engine. Did you try to create a new simple wallpaper and upload that or did you only retry the same? If you didn't try creating a new one yet, can you please do?
Aya Jun 18, 2017 @ 12:05pm
I did tried it only with a picture now, same error...
Biohazard  [developer] Jun 18, 2017 @ 12:09pm
Do the other games with Workshop support still allow you to upload, or could it be that Steam cannot upload the files for some reason?

Steam also shows a few Wallpaper Engine items on your account, maybe you have to delete them first. Also, can you paste the whole path here where you installed Wallpaper Engine to? Maybe there are some characters that could cause issues, although I'm not aware of any yet.
