Wallpaper Engine Causing major lag in COD: Modern Warfare 2019
So as of Tuesday April 14, 2020 my Call of duty game began to heavily lag. It took my 3 days to figure out why. I found out that the issue was wallpaper engine. Also task manager showed that the power usage over time was very high for wallpaper engine. If anyone knows how to fix this please help. I love WE but I would rather not have to turn it off/on every time I play COD.

It could be due to a driver update that now has trouble running both programs at the same time properly or that it enabled an overlay like Nvidia Share with low compatibility - or perhaps you changed the wallpaper to one that doesn't run well.

The easiest fixes are setting the fullscreen playback option to 'Stop' or adding an application rule for COD so that WE stops automatically while playing COD. First just try setting the fullscreen playback option to 'Stop' in the settings of WE.

This way there is no way WE could affect COD because it stops doing anything in the background.

Thanks! I Made a rule so when COD runs my wallpapers will pause. They aren't animated anymore but hey, they still look really nice when paused. :steamhappy:

I don't see call of duty in the list of services for custom rules. What did it show up as for you?

The list only shows running programs but you can just type any .exe name into the list, Wallpaper Engine just looks for the name of the .exe and not the full path or something like that. Just be sure to use the correct upper / lower-case lettering.
