Wallpaper engine Can't Launch
Hello, I just purchased Wallpaper Engine on Steam. After downloading and attempting to run it, the Wallpaper Engine does not appear at all. On Steam, it says 'running', then goes back to the 'LAUNCH' status. I have turned off the antivirus and even the firewall. I also tried 'Verifying the Integrity of Game Files', but when I run it with the 'Launch Check for System Conflicts' option, an error message pops up saying 'an error occurred while updating Wallpaper Engine (missing executable) C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\bin\diagnostic32.exe"

Pls help

What antivirus app are you using? It sounds like something is blocking Wallpaper Engine from running the first-time setup. Configure any antivirus app to ignore the "steamapps" directory (and all subdirectories if that option exists):

C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\

Turning off antivirus apps often does not fully turn them off, so you need to specifically tell them to ignore the Steam folder. Additionally, if it has already blocked some files, you need to manually delete them.

1. Uninstall Wallpaper Engine via Steam.
2. Manually delete the remains of the wallpaper_engine directory by deleting this folder on your hard drive:

C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine

Now reinstall the app and try again.

Try deleting the wallpaper_engine folder in any case as described above, it could be that some files are broken. What version of Windows are you using?

Did you recently upgrade from Windows 10? We had a similar case a few weeks ago where two users upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and we were never able to figure out the problem, they ended up reinstalling Windows and that "magically fixed it" so to speak. If that's the case, I can only assume that there is probably some crazy underlying issue that affects a very small number of people when upgrading to Windows 11.

I have had the same issue,
But I have resolve mine. I have yet to restart but currently I got it working:

I have deleted the wallpaper_engine folder in steamapps.
Allow steamapps in Windows Defender
Set Launcher to run as admin.

Hope this help
