I've been running into this issue with a wallpaper I made. Whenever wallpaper engine is launched without steam first being open (i.e. when my computer starts) this particular wallpaper will appear as a black screen. To fix it, I need to open steam, close wallpaper engine, reopen wallpaper engine, and set the wallpaper again. However, contrary to what the message would imply, steam never downloads a newer version of wallpaper engine. I've tried a few things and still can't get it to work without doing that workaround, and I would greatly prefer not having to manually fix it every time I start up my computer.

I apologize if this has been answered before, I tried finding info on it but came up with nothing. Thanks for taking the time to help!

You probably have the program installed twice. Please delete the old installation, it really should only be installed one time.

The old installation is whatever is auto starting, that should be deleted and the new installation set up to auto start.

After doing a full uninstall/reinstall that seemed to fix it! Thanks for the quick response.

More info:
I had already tried uninstalling/reinstalling, however this time I completely removed the wallpaper engine folder that Steam stores even after deletion. I'm not sure if it was two installations causing the issue, or some weird config option that persisted after uninstalling, but removing that folder and reinstalling seemed to fix it.
