Wallpapers won't animate
I recently upgraded my monitor, and switched from hdmi to display port, but all my hardware is the same. Every time I start up Wallpaper Engine, I am able to select a wallpaper, but it simply doesn't play the animation anymore. I have reinstalled the program and checked settings that others have said could be causing issues but it's to no avail. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue, or if there's a known solution to this problem I am simply overlooking.

Try resetting all the settings with the 'Reset' button in the settings/general tab or by deleting this file:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\config.json

If that makes no difference, does anything change if you set all playback options to 'keep running'?

So I went ahead and individually changed each playback option to keep running, and it seems that the "Other Application Maximized" was causing the issue. My guess is that it's detecting a background application as maximized when I have no visible programs on the screen. It's probably not the fault of Wallpaper Engine. It might be the Dimmer application I use to lower opacity. - Thanks for the quick response.

I just came to comment that Biohazard's solution worked perfectly on my end.

Thank you very much!.

Like ColdestOne said, a custom dimmer application can cause this, in which case you can add an application rule in the performance settings so Wallpaper Engine can ignore it. Really any fullscreen window that isn't truly transparent has this effect but the application rules make it possible so the program can ignore those.

Or if you have multiple monitors and use the clone mode, there is only one real wallpaper and if that gets paused, the clones get paused too for the time being, so you might be thinking that there is something wrong.

Yep, this was the cause for me. Disabiliing it all together for my 2 secondary monitors makes it work fine for my primary

In that case: the next patch will change the 'per monitor' setting to make more sense for the clone/stretch layout. Then it will not truly pause per monitor, since that isn't possible, but instead it only pauses if all monitors are covered at the same time.

Hi Biohazard. I have the exact problem. I deleted the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\config.json
That didnt work. I also changed the option for pausing the animation of the wallpaper on maximized screen so it wil stay animating on. Didnt work either.

just had the same problem, resetting worked. this is just a guess but i think that the program was offended buy shadowplay as that was the only other thing open at the time. that said im not a dev so i could be wrong.
