Wallpaper Engine is covering up my desktop
Originally, Wallpaper Engine worked fine until one day when I turned my computer on, all my desktop icons were gone... they come back whenever I take off the moving wallpaper, but when I use wallpaper engine again, they disappear, with the icons occasionally blinking when I alt+tab to my desktop.

Thanks!

Do you remember if any new software was installed around the time it started? Did you ever have Fences or similar installed?

This happened a few days ago, but I vaguely remember installing a small, old windows update I'd never installed, though I forgot what it was. It might have been after the update that the bug began.

By the way, it only happens on this PC. Ty in advance!

Which version of Windows is it? Is there anything special about the theme settings perhaps? Since it won't work with i.e. high contrast and such, but it shouldn't even start up then.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate and I did change the WE settings slightly, but reverted them to default. I also never specifically set high contrast or anything of the sort.

Can you try running wallpaper32.exe directly as admin? I guess Windows doesn't elevate the icons for some reason.

I tried, but no luck... what's weird is that I tried changing the quality (low, medium, high) and my icons blink on the screen for a quick second before the moving wallpaper reappears.

I think it's restarting the wallpaper to adjust the quality when you change the preset.

Using Windows' normal backgrounds, do you see a smooth transition between them when you change them in the Windows options? Do you see a transition when using the Windows image slideshow?

Somehow, I got it to work! I restarted my computer again and ran Windows32.exe as an admin, and the icons reappeared after setting a wallpaper. I tried this a few times before, but it seems to have worked this time... I'm not sure how it worked, but thanks.
