Wallpaper Engine Always Updates when Starting Steam.
This is just a minor thing really, doesn't really seem to affect the workings of Wallpaper Engine and it's most likely a Steam side issue;

But I notice every time I run the Steam-client, that in my downloads queue it's showing that's it's downloaded an update for Wallpaper Engine. However, almost always it's a 0 byte download, nothing actually gets downloaded or updated that I can see.

Sounds weird. I don't have this issue on my side.

(If you never did this before, beware that you will need to login again)

Maybe the good old delete "ClientRegistry.blob" could help?

Tried deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file. Still the same issue.
Tried verifying the installation. Still the same issue.

Tried even uninstalling the reinstalling Wallpaper Engine. Still the same issue, but then with the unfortunate hassle of it wanting to redownload ALL of the many wallpapers I was subscribed to from the workshop, even though all of those folders and files were still there locally on my computer. :P

So, I guess for now I'll just have to put up with Steam always wanting to download a 0byte "update" for Wallpaper Engine every time I start the Steam-client.

Doing a search on the Steam forums for "0 byte update", I found many threads & posts from Users, of various games / software that had some similar issues.

I found one post that gave the following suggestion:

"-Completely exit the steam client
-Press Windows Key on your Keyboard and R (Windows Key + R)
-Type: steam://flushconfig then press enter"

In my case, after doing this, I noticed the little busy circle icon appear with my mouse pointer, so I waited it for it to finish (took about 10 seconds), then the Steam-client automatically restarted with a message of something like "Do you want to clear the download cache?", to which I confirmed. Then after a moment I was at the Steam login prompt (I had to re-enter in my Username and Password), the Steam-client fully loaded in and that time it didn't do the 0byte update for Wallpaper Engine.

However, after closing the Steam-client and restarting it, the same issue has returned again with Wallpaper Engine doing a 0byte update. :P

I'm suspecting it could maybe have something to do with one of the wallpapers I'm subscribed to? Not sure. Or it's just one of those strange bugs with Steam.

Could it be Steam Cloud? You could disable it - it is only necessary for some of the achievements.

Hi. No it's not the Steam-cloud.
I have that disabled in the Steam settings.

It is something with steam I think. For me they started out of nowhere long ago and on one day got 50-100 updates of 0 bytes size. I never spent effort looking into them, but since then I get them regularly. Yesterday alone I had 5 updates that were 0 bytes, WE was one of them. I just ignore them.

If you ever find the reason, I am curious :)
