Disabling Fences (a Stardock application) kinda messes up wallpaper engine
disabling it removes the wallpaper from visibility, but if the wallpaper has sound it will continue to play, the wallpaper becomes visible again once Fences is re-enabled.

You may be able to avoid it by setting the Windows background to solid black (unless you did that already). Since you continue hearing the audio, I presume the window of Wallpaper Engine is not closed but rather that they draw the default wallpaper on top.

Maybe just using the "recent wallpapers" feature and reloading the last one allows it to be restored? Does it work at all again if you restart Wallpaper Engine completely in that state?

You can restart explorer.exe in the task manager, that's about all I can offer. I would suggest asking on their forums, they are also on Steam I think.

The issue is that you cannot actually close Fences. Even if you disable it, it will keep 3 DLLs loaded into explorer.exe (one of them for the context menu). So I presume the window containing the icons is not translucent as it would be otherwise.
