Transfer wallpaper with linux
This would be really nice if a Linux version only used to transfer wallpaper to my android phone. I don't ask to have the wallpaper working on Linux, just to enable the transfer using Linux.

I never worked with Linux but I bet you can use VM to do this, if your only goal is to transfer wallpapers to android.

It would technically be easier for us to support the wallpaper "playback" first before supporting the full UI, editor or even compilers/renderers involved in the process to convert wallpapers for mobile.

We will get a Steam Deck next year and then see from there. If we cannot add full support, we would more likely be able to at least provide wallpaper playback (on KDE Plasma).

Please, official Wallpaper Engine support would be a blessing. Might want to consult this guy[github.com] as well how he's got it working. I use it personally, works pretty well for most things.

That code is under GPL 2 license so the Wallpaper Engine devs can't use it nor look at it. I would avoid making contact to that person for this reason.

That's not how that works. They can look at it all they want, and it would make more sense for them to contribute to that project and point Linux users to it than to try and port from scratch.

I assume you have no plans to support other Linux desktop environments such as GNOME?

@biohazard and other devs, you might not be aware but there has been an effort ongoing for quite a while to get this to work. It would be very positive if you would join their efforts instead.

It is not feature complete but a true tribute to your work. Please consider doing this player part in the true open source nature.

Just wanted to throw this out there too; there's a project ...similar? to Wallpaper Engine that works on just about every DE I've tried called Komorebi. Could check out their project as another potential starting point. Has its own pros and cons but might be worth a look.

In regards to Catsout's project, what you guys could do is fork that project and use it for the basis of the Steam Deck version while trying to upstream any changes.

Alternatively, you could try hiring Catsout instead of just forking and upstreaming.
