There should be an option to hide the system tray icon.
It's something that can be installed, set, and forget, having the system tray icon seems unnecessary to me after that. Awesome program!

Right-click on the taskbar and from the settings you could set the Windows taskbar to "automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode".

I still want to see my taskbar. Just would like to hide the tray icon.

Most versions of Windows (from... dunno, Windows Vista? 7?) onwards let you manage what icons are shown in the tray.

IIRC you always can get to the relevant settings by right clicking the task bar or tray icons, but I couldn't tell you what EXACTLY to click for every version of Windows.

That only allowws me to hide it in a sub-menu, i'd like to remove it from the system tray completely.

If you can hide it completely, then how do you click the "Change Wallpaper" or "Create Wallpaper" option? It exists as a tray icon for a reason.

as I said, just an option, I set it and forget it, the option being available wouldn't hurt those who still want it, and help those who don't want it!

The same thing for Controller Companion, I set it and forget it, haven't clicked it since installed, but they do have a hide icon option!

Edit: You could also have a shortcut on the start menu, so if you need settings, you can open it, and the settings show up!

I too would like the option for steam to only minimize to the taskbar and to remove the icon in the system/notification tray entirely.

right click on taskbar>taskbar setting>select which icon to appear in taskbar>disablle wallpaper engine.
i will not recomand it. just move it to try
Inimigor Apr 3, 2018 @ 4:55am
@Shonmeleven that just moves it, not hide it.

I like to keep the tray icon region as clean as possible, and I believe a lot of people also prefer it that way. So if something is runnning all the time, it should not have take an icon continuously unless it has an issue happening.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It's been implemented as a hidden feature by now:

Ok nice, though why not simply make it a command line switch? "-hidetrayicon"
Wouldn't that be easier?
Tried it and it works, finally one less icon in that tray, thx :)
