Could you also try manually disabling the Dynamic Fire Effects? To do this without launching, please find your local save file (I dont know where this is on linux) but it will be called profile.ini
Try setting one or both of "fluidDynamics" and "shaders" to 0, then saving and launching.
I disabled the shaders and fluid dynamics.
