New Crash On Launch Case
I've had the Steam version since it was in Humble Choice and finally went to launch it only for steam to say it's running for a few seconds before going back to idle. I've tried rebooting, verifying, and for good measure actually deleting and re downloading despite that it should be the same as verify. I looked through the forums and the last I saw of this kind of case it was fixed in the next patch. I also looked briefly for a crash log as that user listed but did not find one.

---
Edit: Seems it was an issue of using an audio config on the system with a sample rate above 192KHs. Bringing it to 192 or lower is a functional workaround

So, 32-Bit 192KHz works, but nothing higher, and 24-Bit 384Khz fails the same as 32/384. So it appears it's not a bit depth, but a sample rate issue.

That's no good! Can you please post your full hardware specs (even a dxdiag if you can) and I'll get on top of figuring out what's wrong.
Tech Sep 9, 2021 @ 3:08am
Tried to reply with the dxdiag output, but apparently we're limited to 18,000 characters per post on here. I might be past due for a Windows reinstall to clean up extra crud still installed and orphaned on the system

Can you post screenshots of it to imgur and link them here?

Here's a pared down version

also something that caused trouble in other applications it doesn't seem to report, my usual audio format is 32-bit, 384KHz sample rate

I sent the full DxDiag [with personal machine name and number edited] to the sneakybastards gmail. I have a GTX970 though

I do hope that you are part of that website on your profile, as admittedly I kind of rushed through assuming it was the studio page xP

You don't seem to have any hardware that other users have reported problems with. What directory/drive is the game installed to? Are you defaulting running the game on a second monitor? Do you have any USB controllers like joysticks or dongles you can unplug before starting up?
Tech Sep 9, 2021 @ 5:50am
It's on my C: drive as typical
I have a TV and a gaming monitor plugged in at all times, but usually have the TV inactive on the system, but that still leaves the display settings as "Show only on 2"
I can't think of any USB HID that I can disconnect. The only things I can think of in my USB configuration is a Logitech Unifying receiver I use for K&M, the logic control for my G560 Speakers, the Ceative G6 USB DAC that feeds my headphones or the speakers the analogue, the new generation of "Xbox Wireless Controller" (I loathe that they dropped any descriptor like it's the freaking Thief reboot) is either connected by USB or Bluetooth (same issue either way) and then the internal headders for my fans and pump for cooling, an H150I Pro and Commander Pro managed by the latest version of Corsair's iCue

Can you disconnect all displays except the monitor and set it to primary (1)? GameMaker games cannot launch on secondary monitors

Disconnected the TV, rebooted the system to make sure only the monitor was seen as 1, Wildfire died on launch still. Verified integrity in case there was a config that might run as a first run, still died.

Probably an unlikely cause, but also maybe worth pointing out the system has 64GB of RAM. I went overkill and some things make assumptions of logical limits of capacity

I do have a second system I can try it on. I just need to dig it out

Unfortunately I'm not sure where else to go from here - definitely try the second system, and it might even be worth dropping down to 32GB RAM to temporarily see if it still launches - I can definitely confirm it works with 32.
