Ive been surfing the web and i have came across some free FULL VERSIONS of this software (slightly out of date but still). i was thinking about using one of those but i wanted to use my pixel art creations for comercial purposes. are these free FULL VERSIONS legal?

There are pre Steam versions that seem legal, but they are no longer support. Like they're a demo. I say they're legal since I found them on the developer's own website. I never liked the older versions and the Steam version was well worth the update.

Hi Retro, those "free" full versions you have found are probably compiled by third parties. We don't give support for those versions and might contain malware. Also the main point is this: They don't contribute to the Aseprite development.

My personal recommendation for you is that you should install official signed versions only compiled by us (here on Steam or at www.aseprite.org ). Also, if you are going to start a business (use your PC for comercial purposes) you should try to avoid all possible software that might contain malware.

You are free to do whatever makes you happy. You can use whatever you like for any purpose. But, does it really matter what I say? From my point of view basically you're telling me "I'm planning to sell a product but I don't want to buy your product". So basically I'm not sure why you are asking me this.

If your question is "are you going to start legal action if I use a non-official distribution of your program?", the answer is no, I don't. Which is the same for pirated games, developers cannot start legal action for each pirated copied. The purpose of open source is to participate in the development, not to destroy the developers.

No problem. I hope you can buy it soon! ^_^
@Retro, although the information in this thread is not too clear, if the version of aseprite you find online is less than 1.1.8 it is entirely legal and not pirated software in any way. 1.1.8 was when the developer changed the licence of aseprite to forbid the distribution of compiled binaries.

I have compieled the program in the past myself and made it available online. I would link to a download but the developer made it quite clear in the past that he would delete any such links to protect people from possible malware.
