Creating color palettes from scratch and some questions.
I always wondered how professional artists approach making their color palettes and the way colors mixing works on computer instead of real life mixing.

I remember the tutorials saying that if I want to make ligher shades I need to slide the hue towards warmer colors like yellow, while for darker colors I need to slide the hue towards to cooler colors like blue and purple.

But I get confused when I look at professional artists way to use colors with color picker. For example on this pixel art, when I look at the colors from darkest to lightest color, I see that hue slider goes back and forth between yellow and red hue on sand.

Honestly this makes me get confused. So I'd like to ask these questions:

1. How do you like to approach making your palettes?
2. Is HSB sliders are good for mixing/shifting or adjusting?
3. Is "Alpha Compositing" good for mixing colors?
4. What do you suggest to do?

Thank you for reading. I'm waiting for the answers.

This is a pretty good tutorial, it should be able to help you.
Just apply the knowledge to your painting and experiment around.
2. I don't use the slider, Just the big square color spectrum. It all comes down to preference. HSB slider works exactly like the color spectrum, so yeah, you can use it just as well.

3. alpha compositing is good for doing sketches, but I wouldn't use it to mix colors since it only accumulates the alpha values of each brush stroke.

4. There is no quick answer, and I don't think I can explain it better than the tutorial there. Start small and work yourself up. :)
