Copy and Paste frames?
Is there a way of coping frames from one animation's time line and pasting them in a new completely separate one?

Yes, you can select a range of frames (or layers, or cels), copy it with Edit > Copy (Ctrl+C) and then go to other document and paste it with Edit > Paste
