Is there any way to change the default background?

The main colour i am using is extremely similar to the background colour. Can I change the colour so that when i rease pixles it will come up like green or something?

You can change the background colors in 'Preferences' -> 'Background'

You can set another image as a reference layer under Layer > New > New Reference Layer from File. That's the closest you'll get.

You can add a layer and lock that layer with that image, that will act as a background.
