What are good combinations of guns and add-ons?
Is a basterd with a silencer any good considering it's terrible accuracy? Is it worth putting the silencer on my revolver instead and losing the extended barrel?

As far as stealth goes I only ever needed to use throwing knives since they can be retrieved. I'd stay with the extended barrel since it could help against mutants, and like a said knives make silencers redundant. I wouldn't spend any ammo at shops (unless it's a suit, and even then you should really only be buying the stealth suit in my opinion.) since they will become very useful for the library and pretty much everything afterword.

This game is fantastic! I'm not far along yet, but once you get the gas mask and pneumatic|volt weapon maintence down, its a very cool horror shooter. I like that ammo is a precious commodity and every little thing you might carry is a precious commodity. Unlike many shooters where bullets are unending, this shooter requires you to make your shoots count. You pick up one precious round of pneumatic sniper rifle ammo at a time and you make it count... or die trying :)

Editting the user.cfg file to r_vsync on made a big difference in frame rates. Am able to run with msaa after having made that change and still getting mostly > 60 fps.

So throwing knives... haven't tried that yet... should be good for conserving ammo.

I'm not too far in yet, but the typical double-shot and extended barrel magnum tend to serve me pretty well, I barely use the Bastard, though. Throwing knives are nice but I wish regular melee attacks were as stealthy as the thrown knives. Makes no sense to me that it would be the way it is, but it is. Guess I'll just roll with it.

For stealth my favorites are the throwing knifes with the helsing for a litle range (all you really need for stealth) WIth that I like having a VSV for lights and mutants. And a loud revolver with no optics for mutants. For run-gun I prefer the voltdriver with the ak->kalash 2012 and a revolver with the stock, optics, and extended barrel (makes it close to a sniper rifle)

I definitely need to do more than one playthru of this game. On this first one I hope to learn which weapons/loadouts are good for the different circumstances presented in the game. On the second playthru I'll make informed choices at what to be loaded out with when. Right now, I'm trying to cross a dark bridge with no night-vision and no silenced weapons save for 5 throwing knives... but hey... I'm sporting heavy body armor :)

I never had any other weapons do me any favors besides the throwing knives. The silenced revolvers always alerted the patroling gaurds with me.

So...I went with the sniper pistol, the ak/vsv/ak 2012 (I upgraded), and the volt driver. But those pnumatic weapons can be powerfull, I sold my first volt driver for ammo and went with the helsing till the second volt driver (you can find a helsing in the first dead city).

The revolver with long barrel is a killer. If you are good, you can easily sneak up past guards and kill them with you throwing knife.
The VSV is GREAT at anything because of its stealthy appearance. But buy Metro 2033, play through the game at either hardcore / ranger hardcore. When you get to Black Station, the only thing you'll need is throwing knife, a revolver (long barreledxD) and a grenade.
