1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Click on Hardware and Sound or whatever your sound settings is called.
3. click on 'sound' unless you have realtek HD Audio manager then click that.
4. If you clicked on "sound" and opened it up, go to the 'playback' tab
5. Right-click on 'speakers' and click on 'configure speakers'
6. Now change the setting to 'stereo' rather than surround (5.1 or 7.1)
7. Itll probably ask you if you want the sound coming from speakers left and right, yea choose that. Just get it out of surround sound.
And thats it. You're game should sound a whole lot better and hopefully you'll be able to hear people talking, baddies coming up behind you, and your own weapon firing. :D
P.S.: Let me know if it works for you by dropping a comment below. :)
Also, some computers are set up differently so the settings may be named differently but still the same garbage.
I use 5.1 flawlessly on the Metro games. I use the Realtek HD Audio Manager, what I did was set the manager to 7.1, and disabled the "Side pair" of speakers. Works perfectly on every game I play. For whatever reason if you set it to 5.1 it will insist you have front (L/R), center, sub, and the side (L/R).. But what it should be doing is setting it up for front, center, sub, and rear. Of course you can't switch between side and rear if you set the manager to 5.1. So set it to 7.1 and there you have it! Or at least I have it...
Of course if that doesn't work out for you definately do what Jackuri said. Also to expand on what he said, you can usually access your Realtek HD Audio Manager from the system tray as well. It will be a speaker icon, in a very bright orange, hard to miss.
