Physx Error Fix
If your game crashes after installing, it's because it can't create the .dll Physx files. To fix this just go find the folder "Nvidia Corporation" in your system directory "Program Files (x86)" and copy those .dll's into your Metro 2033 folder inside of your Steam. (Under steamapps > common > Metro 2033 )

If any questions, ask away :)

This is a horrible fix. What happens if you are on an AMD system and have never installed any Nvidia drivers?

The correct way to do this is go to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Metro 2033\Install

and double click the PhysX installer. It comes with every version of Metro 2033 regardless if you have an Nvidia card.

invinciblesushi is correct.

In my case, Metro 2033 is installed in a steam directory not on the primary hard drive, and copying the dll's from "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common" to "D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Metro 2033" removes the error and allows the game to by played.

OTOH, using the PhysX installer did not.

Great, and if someone uses AMD ?

You can install Nvidia Physx drivers even if you have AMD because its required for some games (ex. Metro 2033)

Again, what happens if you have never installed a PhysX driver and are on an AMD system? That Nvidia folder would not exist, those dll's would not be there, and that entire fix is uncompleteable.

Using the install file or downloading the driver is the more applicable solution. Copying DLLs is a workaround that only applies some of the time.

The reason I posted this was because I found that installing Physx from Metro game directory didn't work for me, but copying the .dll's did. You can download the Physx drivers for any hardware you're using, whether it be AMD or Nvidia

I am on an AMD/ATI system.

As part of the normal Metro 2033 install process, Steam does install PhysX to the above mentioned directories.

Certainly trying to use the provided installer in the Metro 2033 directory is a good first step to solve the problem, but the solution that worked for me (ditto invinciblesushi) was to copy the dll's. Ultimately I never needed to have reinstalled PhysX, because the dll's were (supposedly) in their correct location in the nVidia directory, but the game just wasn't looking for them there.

Irregardless of the aesthetic nature of a hack, if it makes your sofware work, that's the beauty of it, no?

copying ddl's files on to :\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Metro 2033 worked like a charm - no need to install anything.

/thumbs up

I have to toss my vote in for DLL copying being the way to go. I did try a reinstall of PHYSX, but it failed to work. Copying the DLLs did. (I too have a non-system drive steam library.)

Thanks for the advice; worked like a charm. You saved my weekend, invinciblesushi!
