Ranger or normal?

I've just bought the Metro games on the recent sale and was wondering: Should I start my first playthrough in 2033 at the hardcore "Ranger" mode or normal? I don't like it when a first person shoother literally shoves ammo down your throat at every oppertunity given. Making ammo scarce, makes the game more tense and forces you to the whole arsenal of weapons, like in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Dead Space and BioShock. So I read that the Ranger mode provided this, but is it really a good idea for the #1 playthrough? Does it make the game so difficult that it may ruin some of the excperience?
Also heard that Last Light had one, but, after what I've heard, it isn't that good.

Question!! in wich chapter do you get to choose between the Stealth and the Heavy Armor ?
I dont remember but i know that i missed it in my first playthrough.

Ranger all the way for me. I played and beat noth games on them, didn't even go for the normal mode. IMHO the game is more immersive without the HUD and with more realistic weapon damage. Only problem I could see there is the lack of gas mask filters, so you need to buy all you can the first chance you get. I am pretty sure only few first stores have them on Ranger Hardcore and then you need to scavenge for them. But I played it quite a while ago, thou.

Armory level. After you meet Andrew the blacksmith. To the right of the weapon shops before you get in the hole.

They removed the armor from the game. So don't look for the armor merchants at Forge.

Players who start with ranger mode usually end up complaining in the forum that they are stuck somewhere. Because in ranger mode, you won't have tips, so you won't know anything about how to use filters, masks, flashlight charger, ect. And the most important, you won't know when and what to press to climb at the tower, or when a monsters on you, ect.

Agreed, but most of this could have been avoided by releasing an updated pdf Manual for Metro 2033 Redux.

the former things can be learnt- in the prologue it tells you what to do for the latter- mash 'e' at every opoortunity
