yeah i also had to replay that game because i did not know it had different final boss fights and different endings lol
It's a shame to the entire series that the only entry on the store is the subpar third person shooter this game was.
i hope they go back to tactics because they cant make different type Front Mission game. Or at least remake old ones
That being said, I really, really want more open ended Japanese style mech game, with direct piloting, maybe open missions with commanding your squad of mechs, combined warfare with tanks and infantry, meta progression with mid-mission salvaging and customization - and so on.
And also, don't get me wrong, if there was an HD remaster, hell, even ports of the old games on PC - I would buy that in a flash, I'm with you on that, hands down.
Yes, it would be so terrible if we have some variety in gaming, call square to make front mission like the other games instead.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but this game did go in that direction, and it was a massive failure. Front Mission is a strategy series in the mecha genre, and currently nobody is even bothering with that which is all the more reason another traditional Front Mission game needs to be done, or at least a remaster of the previous games released on all platforms.
What we need isn't Front Mission in third person, we just need more mecha games. It's not widely touched upon, and the ones that do tend to be mediocre or just bad.
This is of course all for not as with Square, anything that fails financially that isn't Final Fantasy gets warehoused away never to see the light of day.
That being said, I completely agree that we need more mecha games. Thing is most mecha games that get made nowadays are either disastrously confused in their own design, or in niche genres like runner or shmup or whatnot. Or are indie which is hard to do, Dual Gear is still in development after all these years, and even it is not completely turn based. Or are on consoles only, like with anything gundam.
Anyway, I'm not arguing with you guys, I just expressed that I wanted a piloting japanese mecha game. I guess it was folly to do so in this discussion.
i like the saga on play 2....please square.... dont let this saga die
Tactics RTS is dead for a long time now, because it wont sell on PC and Consoles
The only way to see these games are either made by indie devs or get these games on mobile with gacha system implemented.
We will never see classic Front Mission games made for PC and latest consoles by Square Enix or some other bigshot company
The thing is though, Front Mission didn't die, it was finished.
FM1-5 all tell a cohesive narrative that builds on one another. With 5 being the ultimate bow on the gift that wraps everything up. Think much like Metal Gear Solid 4 is to that series.
Interviews online by the creators even openly talk about how 5 is the last game, period, they didn't intend to make any more. With the story done the original Front Mission team disbanded and scattered to the wind.
Which is why we got stinkers like LEFT ALIVE and EVOLVED. Because basically none of the original team that we have nostalgia over worked on these games. Its just Square artificially extending the life of a finished series.
Even so, I know many fans are up in arms about how they changed the gameplay in this one in particular and think that's why this game failed but that isn't true. A third-person Armored Core like game of Front Mission existed before, called Front Mission Online. And that game was highly successful. (And yes, its gone now and was a Japanese only release. Much like 99% of Front Mission content.) This is also not to mention another spinoff called GUNHAZARD which was quite successful aswell and was a sort of side-scroller action-shooter. On PS1 there was even a fairly good FM RTS game.
If anything I just want a proper release or translation of FM2. As it remains the only Front Mission game you cannot play in English fan or otherwise. As the translation for it isn't finished and is pretty sloppy from what I remember. Which is a shame, because the 5th game relies on the context of the whole series. Which is why 5 didn't get translated anyways despite the success of 3+4 in the west.
I mean we got an official translation of 1 several years afterward via the DS Remake. So why not 2? And with that, finally give us 5.
