The characters you describe are both included in Berseria, and don't really agree that it is the wrong game. Thing is that each type are mutually exclusive from the other, and you just have to wait and see which character fills the said roles. I will say this: Berseria is definitely a new age type of story. In the old times before it used to be stuff like superman fighting against evil, but now we get lots of stories that like to point out the conditions that make people evil which makes for some pretty long stories.
all right i know what you are saying, after i recalled some moment in the game, I finished this many years ago so i kind of remembered only few scenes. but the impression i got from this guy after reading his comments is that he is in a rush to see Velvet change in early game, and it doesn't look like he's enjoying it so i don't recommend the game.
I'm all up for a good vengeance story, but when everyone are hyping Berseria as they do, claiming it's story is on a different league than Arise, I grabbed it to play after Arise. And if this is the vengeance story everyone were talking about, then.. ye.. you could say I'm rather disappointed.
I won't say how I think the story should have gone for the vengeance plot to work, as I suppose it's all a matter of perspective and personal taste. I just didn't get that vengeance vibe from it, like for example AC Origins Byak's intro. There, even though I didn't had to much of understanding of what's going on, it got me fired up. Probably just got over-hyped about this game, is all.
I'm still trying to explore everything before moving on and am playing on a high difficulty for better or worse, just think if this is the cast I'll be sticking with, then ye plot and characters just aren't for me.
Does she have too? She is not some one-sided character where revenge is the only thing that defines her. She also has a wall around her heart
It's fine not to like her in the beginning (I doubt any character is likable from the get go when you know nothing about them yet), but she grows on you eventually especially when you notice those changes, that she is not just vengeance machine.
Edit: And... they broke her as I expected. So it is the story which consists of tragic beginning which sets the reason for protagonist to go on revenge journey, breaking the walls which protagonist created around his heart because of trauma, breaking the protagonist, and finally getting him back due to connection he acquired on his journey where his priorities change and instead of revenge for the past he starts fighting to protect what he has now (this part I have yet to see in this game so it may not even happen although I doubt it). Cases from anime that I watched which this reminds me of: Van from GunXSword and Eren from Attack on Titan. Still interesting to play because you don't encounter such story very often and the journey although similar is actually different for each of those character.
Magilou. She was love at first sight, admit it! She would be at the top of a character tier list, and Velvet takes a long time to get anywhere near that top. Magilou is usually completely dumb and almost never serious or intense, she is like a mirror image of Velvet in that regard.
Forgettable Villains
Weird location decision that break my immersion(1st chapter)
The Velvet's village? Or does it counts as a prologue. So the prison then? What was weird about it?
