How weeby is this?

I'm not really a huge anime fan, but I like the imagery and JRPGs in general. How hard does this game lean into 1001 anime tropes?

The character writing is what many people feel the Tales series is strongest at. Personally I don't know too many anime tropes so I couldn't tell you whether or not this game uses them

Harem. UwU. Looks like a 14 year old but is actually a 1000 year old wizard but is still a naked child. Gruff anime protagonist #100000001. Every woman is dressed like a prostitute.

Just the examples off the top of my head. Anyone who has seen 2 anime has seen at least 1 trope. It's the corny ♥♥♥♥ that is in every anime. I am mildy interested in this but if it's a running stereotype Ima pass.

I think tales games usually don't do those kinds of anime tropes way too much. They are usually more toned down compared to anime shows, so even non-weebs can enjoy the game. Personally, I think you will like the game.

Main character aside, the other women that I can remember are mostly well-dressed without much revealing body parts. But if you dislike the outfit, you can always change it in the "costumes" menu.

Tales games also don't really have harem nor those kinds of stuff. And every tales always have a balanced gendered party members, with half being Males & half being Females.

I don't think it's as bad as you are fearing. I'm not the biggest watcher of anime myself. You won't have to worry about a naked child. One of the supporting characters looks and acts like a child like one would expect. The only questionably dressed woman is the protagonist, Velvet. She's dressed like she's been in a million fights and doesn't bother fixing her shredded clothes, but there is a peasant outfit she wore during the prologue that you could use instead. There is no harem junk to worry about, so I think you might find the game enjoyable enough.

I bought the game solely because I love the main character's japanese voice actress, Rina Satou
Did not feel the weeb, actually Velvet doesn't even call Laphicet Onii-chan, you can't reject the weeb more than that, the weeb part was very lacking for me
The only thing I can consider remotely "weeb" is one of the last missions, there's a cutscene where they all go to a bathouse, but wasn't weeb enough for my tastes

Too anime-ish for me. I don't know why jRPGs of late tend to go 200% weeaboo... I'm too attached to jRPGs from 2000s... Bought the game dirt cheap but don't think I will even finish it...

That's a shame, as someone who doesn't really watch that much anime I gotta say this is probably the best action RPG I've ever played

it's plenty weeby but in the most endearing and even self-aware way and all the weebiness is offset by amazingly written dialogue between amazing characters (love u Rokuro xoxo) that discuss politics, trade, architecture, beverages, cuisine, ambitions, life, emotions 😳 and lots of other very interesting topics surprisingly in-depth and with lush and rich language (what the ♥♥♥♥ is a Menagerie).

Berseria is a game that keeps on giving as long as you don't get KO'd by excessive amounts of text tutorials still present 10 hours in most of which you'll barely ever need anyway and could have been easily oversimplified.

And with all that I'm giving this one a 9 awkward coo-coo dove impressions out of hmmm 10 diarrhea dookie-inducing delicious mabo curries
