Mega Sonic Thrust use
So how exactly do I chain this properly? I am not that far into the game (I think?), I just beat that lizard daemon and after fighting a few low level mobs on my way back to the town I got Mega Sonic Thrust. The thing is, it knocks back enemies far more often than it's description makes me believe. Is there a particularly good arte to use right after, or is it just an arte I shouldn't use unless against an armored? This isn't the type of game I'm particularly experienced in, so efficient combos and all that aren't something I'm particular good at creating

Just keep playing and level up. You will eventually get an arte which is suitable to chain with Mega Sonic Thrust.

I personally put it in a third slot. Down the enemy, then start a new combo chain, I don't use it as often, but it you have Eizen in your party, it complements his Break Soul ability.

Megasonic Thrust isn't as good as it used to be(Reid and Hubert had EXCELLENT versions of this arte), but I digress =0\. One way to use it is to have an extra Soul after its use to quickstep forward, then use an off-the-ground(OTG) move like Water Snake's Wake or Infernal Torrent(imo, you should generally keep an OTG move in the first(use OTG arte immediately) or second(quickstep forward, then use OTG arte) arte Tiers/columns. Also, like OACMann said, it can complement Eizen's Break Soul use for some nice damage.

Just keep in mind that the Down effect becomes invalid for a time once the enemy gets downed(how many seconds depends on the enemy; its all different), unlike older games which practically guarantee a Down once used(like the Symphonia/Abyss eras), so it shouldn't be depended on.
