these days, its mostly the larger high profile titles that still get them
Berseria collector's edition does have a starter strategy guide book included... Guess selling seperately is not too profitable.
Lately, with sites like gamefaqs providing detailed guides, it's harder and harder to justify paying for a guide.
It is also important to note that Prima's quality leaves a lot to be desired on some of their guides, with not only typos that are not corrected later on (in an online guide), but also wrong informations here and there.
I am still proud to have bought guides for some older titles like phantom brave, because of the amount of details that are hard to keep track of, but for most games recently, between gamefaqs and normal google searches, you usually can get your information fairly easily too.
But it's still odd, if they do have a strategy guide already, why not sell an online version through steam for those interested?
for the things that only developers know(for example the formulas) you still need a genuine guide book published by a company. You can't know everything on the internet unless people transcribe that book.
and formula can be acquired via data mining and experimentation, something that has been commonly done for internet guides going at least as far back as Might & magic 7 (released in 1999), those early class guides had the mana calculations for each class down pat (right down to how they were modified bt the meditation skill and certain enchantments)..
there really isn't much a publishing company can get hold of a user can't given the proper motivation, other than developer commentary..
sentences can look hand written of course, whether or not its translation. so I'm not really sure if the writers did everything on their own.
there are many guide sites in Japanese and i read almost all of them, but none are as detailed and comprehensive as the official guide book.
